Goals and Objectives

The educational goal of the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship is to prepare qualified physicians for a career in pediatric endocrinology. Upon completion of this program, trainees will be board eligible for the American Board of Pediatrics, Sub-board of Pediatric Endocrinology.

Clinical Education
Through exposure to patients, with the fellow taking on increasing responsibility for their care, the fellow will learn about physiology, pathophysiology and biochemistry of the endocrine system, as well as the appropriate use and interpretation of diagnostic methodologies and treatments. This education is supplemented by formal didactic lessons.

Research Education
While working with their faculty mentor on appropriate basic science and clinical research projects, fellows will gain training in research techniques, statistical evaluation, grant proposal, manuscript preparation and the scientific, ethical, and legal aspects of biomedical research. Fellows present their research findings at local, national and international meetings.

Teaching Education
Pediatric endocrinology fellows are also teachers, serving in the role of educator to pediatric residents, medical students, referring physicians and patients and their families.

Lifelong Learning
The Pediatric Endocrinology Training Program emphasizes that only through the constant renewal of their knowledge can the successful physician provide the best care for their patients, conduct and understand the most relevant research and remain an effective teacher.
