Speakers, Sim Wars and presentations on the latest medical education advances will highlight the fourth annual Medical Education Week at the University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville campus April 9-13.

"This is an opportunity to really celebrate the excellence and innovation in medical education on this campus," said Elisa A. Zenni, M.D., UF associate dean for educational affairs.

Some of the larger events include Sim Wars on Tuesday morning, where teams of residents representing different departments are put through various scenarios and are judged by a faculty panel.

On Thursday, trainees and faculty from the colleges of medicine, nursing and pharmacy, as well as Shands Jacksonville nursing and pharmacy will present posters about new technology and techniques to be used for training students and residents.

Daniel R. Wilson, M.D., Ph.D., vice president for health affairs and dean of the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville, will give the keynote speech on Thursday. This is Wilson’s first medical education week since coming to campus in February.

For years, the Jacksonville campus used to participate via videoconference in the events on the UF campus in Gainesville, but decided four years ago to have their own activities. The lineup has continued to grow ever since, Zenni said, to showcase the work on campus and to expand the opportunities for faculty, students, residents and fellows to participate.
