Ophthalmology residents receive awards for their presentations at FSO meeting

Jayson Edwards, M.D. and Carolee Cutler Peck, M.D., M.P.H., University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville ophthalmology residents, returned home from the Annual Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO) Meeting as award winning presenters.

The annual FSO Masters in Ophthalmology meeting was held June 24-26 in Palm Beach, Fla. Residents from ophthalmology programs around the state of Florida submitted original research topics for presentation. Resident presentations were scored on presentation quality, scientific method and potential impact on ophthalmology. Based upon the resulting scores, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recipients were selected from among the presenters at the annual meeting.

Dr. Edwards received the first place award for his presentation entitled "Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-a) Levels in Aqueous Humor of Primary Open Angle Glaucoma". Dr. Peck's presentation "OCT Findings with Structural and Functional Correlation in Two Siblings with North Carolina Macular Dystrophy" garnered her a tie for second place.
