Dr. Mooradian publishes insulin research study

Arshag D. Mooradian, M.D., professor and chair of the department of medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, in collaboration with researchers at the University of Washington and Saint Louis University, was recently published in the international journal Peptides.

The study showed that insulin detemir (trade name Levemir), unlike human insulin, does not cross the blood-brain barrier. This may explain why insulin detemir has a different profile of action on the central nervous system than human insulin.
