Residents, fellows to be recognized during special June 10 event

Virtual poster viewings will be part of the June 10 Celebration of Resident and Fellow Education and Research Day at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville.

Celebration of Resident and Fellow Education and Research Day will be held virtually.

The University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville has combined its annual flagship celebrations into one robust event: Celebration of Resident and Fellow Education and Research Day, which will be held Wednesday, June 10.

The event, set to begin at 1 p.m. via livestream, merges what has in the past been known as graduation, research day and Advances in Medical Education, respectively. The joint event is an opportunity to recognize excellence in research, education and scholarship among the college’s resident physicians, fellows and faculty members.

Calls for abstracts in the areas of clinical research, clinical vignettes, medical education research and scholarship, quality improvement and a new photo contest resulted in nearly 90 submissions. Four of those submissions have been chosen for live platform presentation June 10. The presenters are Maedeh Ganji, MD, MBA; Alexander Ghannam, MD; Issa Hanna, MD; and Sandra Siller, MD.

College leaders initially planned for Celebration of Resident and Fellow Education and Research Day to be held in person. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused them to shift to a virtual format.

“Circumstances have forced us to do things differently this year,” said Leon L. Haley Jr., MD, MHSA, dean of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville. “Nonetheless, we look forward to this special event, which gives us a chance to celebrate the many great academic endeavors and accomplishments of those who train, practice and teach on our campus.”
