UF Health Jacksonville joins national group supporting women in the workplace

UF Health Jacksonville today announced its participation in and unwavering support for TIME’S UP Healthcare, a new national initiative dedicated to ensuring safe, fair and dignified work for women in the industry. TIME’S UP Healthcare is a part of TIME’S UP, which launched in January 2018 to support women who experience sexual misconduct and related retaliation in the workplace across multiple industries.

"UF Health Jacksonville prides itself on treatment, inclusion and respect for everyone in this organization, so it’s only natural for us to support a groundbreaking organization like TIME’S UP," said Leon L. Haley Jr., M.D., MHSA, CEO of UF Health Jacksonville and dean of the University of Florida College of Medicine — Jacksonville. "I’m proud to say many of our key leaders, and much of our work staff, are women who are dedicated not only to providing the best, most compassionate health care possible, but also ensuring fair treatment of all genders, races and cultures. Our support of those efforts is imperative."

UF Health Jacksonville in now a signatory of TIME’S UP Healthcare, with a focus on the following core principles:

  • Sexual harassment and gender inequity have no place in the health care workplace. We are committed to preventing sexual harassment and gender inequity and protecting and aiding those who are targets of harassment and discrimination.
  • We believe every employee should have equitable opportunity, support and compensation.
  • We cannot address a problem without understanding its scope and impact. We will measure and track sexual harassment and any gender-based inequities reported in our institution.

"The mission of TIME’S UP aligns perfectly with this enterprise," said Haley. "Our core principles have always been to treat everyone with respect, not only the workforce but anyone who walks through our doors. I cannot thank TIME’S UP Healthcare enough for the focus it is putting on this crucial topic."

Launched by a group of women in the entertainment industry, TIME’S UP has since expanded with groups organizing in advertising, entertainment, press, technology, music, venture and more, and across cities and countries throughout the world.
