Angiolillo named to national cardiology exam committee

Dominick Angiolillo, MD, PhD, a professor of medicine and director of cardiovascular research at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, has been named to a special cardiology-based exam committee for the American Board of Internal Medicine. Such committees develop the exams used for physicians’ credential certifications.

His appointment was announced earlier this month.

“ABIM exam committee members are working side-by-side with physicians in their specialty area to set the level of performance required to pass Maintenance of Certification exams,” said Patricia Conolly, MD, chair-elect of ABIM’s Board of Directors. “New committee members will bring on-the-ground knowledge from their discipline to this evidence-based, peer-defined process in order to develop reliable and fair performance standards for current and future assessments.”

Angiolillo directs the interventional cardiology fellowship program at UFCOMJ and serves as a staff cardiologist and interventional cardiologist at UF Health Jacksonville. He is certified by ABIM in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.

Angiolillo’s research has included studies on coronary artery disease and antiplatelet medications, which prevent blood clot formation. He has studied personalized antiplatelet treatment approaches, which include genetic assessments. His international recognition in the field has helped attract post-doctoral trainees from across the world to work in his research lab.
