Mission

The UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship is part of The Gator Nation®, a diverse community dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research and shaping a better future for Florida, the nation and the world. Our mission is to enable our fellows to lead and influence the next generation and beyond, for the benefit of societal well-being.

Program Aims

  • Educate competent physicians in a multidisciplinary training model in order to provide expertise in management of a wide variety of complex endocrine disorders in adults
    • Rotations in reproductive, obesity and pediatric endocrinology to supplement training
  • Provide a nurturing and collegial educational environment for development of compassionate endocrine specialists who can use a patient centered, scholarly, evidence based approach
    • Faculty intimately involved and invested in success of fellows
    • Evidence based medicine training provided as part of core conferences and practiced by faculty during teaching clinics.
  • Equip fellows with the knowledge and versatility to treat a diverse patient population including the medically underserved in a wide variety of urban and suburban populations
  • Provide ample opportunities to trainees in basic and clinical research, hands on clinical and procedural skills along with advances pertaining to endocrine disorders including diabetes in order to develop individualized career tracks
    • Ample opportunities to become proficient in endocrine procedures such as thyroid biopsies, insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring, bone density assessment, etc.
    • Ability to individualize career path by tailoring clinical rotations and research experience
  • Fellows complete board certification in endocrinology
    • Participate in regular endocrine board review sessions
    • Fellows participate in annual in-training endocrine exams

Program Goals and Objectives

The goals of the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville endocrinology fellowship program are to provide a comprehensive instruction and experience in clinical endocrinology (including evaluation and treatment of disorders of the hypothalamus, pituitary, parathyroid, thyroid, endocrine pancreas, gonadal and adrenal glands, as well as diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemias, hypertension, bone diseases, neuroendocrine diseases and metabolic disorders) sufficient for the fellow to acquire the competency of a specialist in the field, as well as an introduction to the principles of clinical and laboratory research and experience in relevant endocrinologic investigations.
