Program Mission and Aims

Mission Statement

Our program will provide exceptional training that transforms pediatric and emergency medicine residency graduates into board-certified, independently practicing pediatric emergency medicine physicians who excel in any clinical environment and are prepared to assume leadership roles in the future.

Program Aims

To produce confident, professional pediatric emergency physicians who are qualified and capable of assuming leadership roles in the clinical, research, educational and administrative aspects of pediatric emergency medicine, our program will:

  • Provide an in-depth clinical experience in both the diagnostic evaluation and management of a broad range of pediatric emergency patients.
  • Train physicians in the immediate recognition, evaluation, treatment and disposition of patients in the emergency department setting.
  • Develop the potential of fellows interested in assuming leadership, particularly interested in education and research.
  • Provide an experience that will allow fellows in training to acquire the administrative skills necessary to perform leadership tasks that contemporary pediatric emergency physicians are and should be, assuming.
  • Provide a broad base of experience in pediatric emergency medicine and in all related specialties, with graded responsibilities for teaching and research integrated.
  • Provide an environment in which fellows are able to achieve the core competencies required to successfully practice pediatric emergency medicine, including professionalism, interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to provide safe and effective patient care, life-long learning aimed at continually improving medical knowledge and clinical practice and integrating and influencing medical care systems to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Create a fellowship experience that allows fellows to develop academic and administrative skills necessary to become future leaders in the specialty of emergency medicine.
