The master rotation schedule consists of 12 months. The box on the right shows an example of a flexible service schedule. The schedule is organized so that each service acts as a building block for the next and it allows time at the beginning of the schedule for fellows to prepare for examination for certification.

Fellows are on in-house call five to six times per month. Attendings are always present in house.

Two months are reserved for elective rotations. Fellows can choose from among the following:

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit at Shands Jacksonville (4 week block)

  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wolfson's Children's Hospital (2 or 4 week block)

  • Burn Intensive Care Unit at Shands at UF (2 or 4 week block)

  • Conferences

  • Anesthesia at Shands Jacksonville (2 or 4 week block)

  • Nephrology at Shands Jacksonville (2 or 4 week block)

  • High-risk Obstetrics at Shands Jacksonville (2 or 4 week block)

The curriculum also includes 12 conference topics, lasting 4 weeks each (refer to box on right for list). Every Wednesday morning, a guest faculty or a fellow, in conjunction with a UF faculty, provides an in-depth review of that week's conference topic.

Journal clubs occur monthly and cover topics like "controversies in critical care." A fellow moderates each journal club and a debate format is used to promote discussion.
