Research
- Each fellow will meet with the Director of Fellowship Research during the first month of training to discuss goals and expectations.
- Each fellow will be introduced to the Scholarship Oversight Committee for Pediatric Fellowship Programs. This committee will be responsible for overseeing and assessing the progress of the fellow towards meeting the American Board of Pediatrics requirements for scholarly activity.
- Each fellow will be helped to choose a meaningful research project of his/her choice, and will be made aware of all other faculty members conducting research outside the division of infectious diseases on Jacksonville and Gainesville campuses.
- A list of fundamental research opportunities available in Jacksonville and Gainesville will be provided.
- Opportunities of research outside of University of Florida (e.g. CDC etc.) will be encouraged.
- Each fellow will be assigned a faculty member as a mentor.
- The fellow will meet with his/her mentor regularly to discuss the progress of the research project, and with the director of fellowship research at least four times per year.
- The fellow will meet with his/her mentor on an as needed basis to solve urgent problems.
- Each fellow will present a report of his/her research project to the Scholarship Oversight Committee annually (1st year) and at least semi-annually thereafter.
- The fellow will attend research seminar and lectures on regular basis and their attendance will be evaluated (see below).
- Writing skills (manuscripts, research proposals, abstracts) will be taught by mentors and by arranging special seminars.
- Each fellow will present at least once at a national and/or international conference.
- Each fellow will write and publish at least one meaningful research project, one review article, one book chapter (if opportunity arises) and one case report or case series.
