David Vukich, M.D. appointed as UF senior associate dean for hospital affairs and senior vice president and chief medical officer/chief quality officer for Shands Jacksonville

David Vukich, M.D., University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville professor, has been appointed the UF senior associate dean for hospital affairs and the senior vice president and chief medical officer/chief quality officer for Shands Jacksonville effective April 1, 2011. Dr. Vukich had previously served as chair of the department of emergency medicine and senior vice president for medical affairs at Shands Jacksonville.

Vukich's new responsibilities as CMO/CQO include directing and overseeing medical staff at Shands Jacksonville; facilitating interactions between Shands and Jacksonville-based medical staff; developing a quality and performance improvement program for the hospital and UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville clinics; and developing medical staff policies and procedures. Vukich will be a key representative for Shands Jacksonville in physician recruitment, credentialing, discipline and continuing medical education.

Vukich received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Denver General Hospital. Following his training, he was a medical officer in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps before joining the UF division of emergency medicine in Jacksonville in 1984. In 1985, he was appointed chief of emergency medicine and has worked with faculty to build the academic department ever since. Vukich is board certified in emergency medicine. His clinical interests include functional medicine and wellness programs.
