UF Health Science Center Jacksonville celebrates 2010 Research Day

Robert L. Wears, M.D. receives the 2010 Faculty Research/Scholar of the Year award from Robert C. Nuss, M.D.

The University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville's annual research awards presentation and ceremony, sponsored by the office of research affairs, brought together faculty, fellows and residents to share their academic and scientific research accomplishments.

The program, held May 20, 2010 in the Learning Resource Center Auditorium, featured platform presentations, poster viewing and award presentations. The keynote speaker for the event was Kathleen Kendrick, M.S.C.S., B.S.N., deputy director and chief information officer for the agency of healthcare research and quality, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Guest speakers and award presenters from UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville included the 2009 Faculty Research/Scholar of the Year, Scott L. Silliman, M.D., associate professor for the department of neurology, Alan Berger, M.D., associate dean for research and Constance K. Haan, M.D., M.S., senior associate dean for educational affairs.

2010 Faculty Research/Scholar of the Year Award

Robert C. Nuss, M.D., professor, associate vice president for health Affairs and dean of the regional campus Jacksonville, introduced the 2010 Faculty Researcher/Scholar of the Year, Robert L. Wears, M.D., professor, department of emergency medicine. Dr. Wears was recently featured in a physician spotlight story on the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville Website.

The honor, first awarded in 1996, is given to a faculty member displaying three scholarship qualities: discovery (research), dissemination (publication in journals) and application (presentation at regional and national professional meetings). Dr. Wears was also the recipient of the prestigious Faculty Researcher of the Year award in 2001, making him the campus' first two-time winner.
