Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Joseph Sindone, DPM, to the Florida Board of Podiatric Medicine.

Sindone, an assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, will become one of just five podiatrists statewide who comprise the board. His appointment, set to run retroactively from Feb. 9, 2015, through Oct. 31, 2018, is pending confirmation by the state Senate.

“It’s a huge honor to serve on the board,” Sindone said. “I’m humbled the governor selected me.”

The Board of Podiatric Medicine ensures podiatric physicians in the state meet certain requirements for safe practice. Among its activities, the board licenses, monitors, disciplines and educates practitioners — all in an effort to protect the state’s residents.

This will be Sindone’s second stint on the board. He initially served from 2003 to 2007. He said listening to patient complaints and reviewing state statutes will remain key issues. Such complaints involve matters of care provided, charges rendered, patient outcomes and potentially misleading advertising.

“The board considers a great deal related to the scope of podiatric practice across the state,” Sindone said. “It’s an important undertaking, and I look forward to being part of the process once again.”

Sindone, who is board-certified in podiatry, focuses largely on foot surgery and diabetic infections. He has been at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville since 2006.
