Zeretzke to present at Fifth Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress

Cristina Zeretzke, M.D., pediatric emergency medicine fellow at the University of Florida College of Medicine-Jacksonville, will present the results of her research study at the Fifth Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Congress in Valencia, Spain September 14-17, 2009.
The presentation, "Impact of Immunization Registry Program on Children aged 6-24 months who Present to ED with Fever without Source", will summarize the results of an IRB approved observational study conducted at Shands Jacksonville.
The study was designed to determine the impact on decision making among pediatric emergency medicine physicians when they utilize a state immunization registry for children 6-24 months who present with fever without source. The study demonstrated a decreased need for blood work, needle sticks and laboratory testing in children with fever without a source.
Serving as co-authors and mentors on the project were Drs. Todd Wylie, assistant professor and program director of the pediatric emergency medicine fellowship, Mark McIntosh, assistant professor, department of emergency medicine, and David Wood, professor, department of pediatrics and medical director of JaxHATS, and Ms. Colleen Kalynch, director of research and educational development, department of emergency medicine.
The conference sponsors include the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EuSEM), the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) and the Sociedad Espaņola de Medicina de Urgencias y Emergencias (SEMES). It is anticipated that 1,500 emergency medicine specialists representing more than 75 countries will attend.
