Kamela K. Scott, Ph.D., was awarded one of five national Kamangar Ethics Awards for Surgery Residents Training Program in Medical Ethics. Dr. Scott is an associate professor in the department of surgery, division of acute care surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville.
The annual awards are provided by The Kamangar Foundation and administered by the Center for the Study of Ethics and Human Values at Washington University in St. Louis. The Foundation is dedicated to helping future generations of physicians learn the principles of ethical medical practice and the value of compassionate medical care.
The Kamangar Ethics Awards are designed to assist surgery training programs in developing and implementing ethics training for residents by providing funds to support regular surgery ethics discussions as well as training materials.
Michael S. Nussbaum, M.D. professor, chair of the department of surgery and program director of the general surgery residency program said that with the support of this award, and under the direction of Dr. Scott, a full ethics curriculum will be developed.
