Application Process

For specific eligibility requirements, please refer to our GME brochure.

Our residency program only accepts applications through the AAMC's Electronic Residency Application Service. ERAS collects the required materials and then transmits these documents from your medical school to our residency program. We do not require any materials beyond the ERAS requirements. The UF Department of Internal Medicine in Jacksonville also participates in the National Residency Matching Program.

If you are interested in applying for a PGY1 in internal medicine and a PGY2 in neurology, the following required documents must be provided to ERAS:

  1. ERAS common application form

  2. A personal statement

  3. Four current letters of recommendation:

    • One from an internal medicine physician at your medical school

    • One from a neurology physician at your medical school or a neurology physician who has been involved in your education.

    • Two from physicians who are familiar with your work or abilities

  4. Dean's letter (downloaded from your school on November 1st)

  5. Official medical school transcript

  6. USMLE score report

  7. Curriculum vitae

We are an advanced program and offer joint interviews with our internal medicine residency program. If you are interested in both programs, please make sure to check both programs under the tab "Programs" of the ERAS application.

If you are interested in applying for a PGY2 in neurology only, the following required documents must be provided to ERAS:

  1. ERAS common application form

  2. A personal statement

  3. Three current letters of recommendation:

    • One from a neurology physician at your medical school or a neurology physician who has been involved in your education

Interviews

If applying conjointly for Internal Medicine and Neurology programs, you will interview with faculty from both programs on the same day. In this case, we suggest individuals arrive in Jacksonville the night preceding their interview. This will allow interviewees the time to attend a special welcome reception/dinner, with members from our housestaff, at one of our local restaurants (the exact location will be communicated to all applicants prior to their arrival). Accommodations will be provided for this night. Our interview day will begin at 8 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m. The day will include:

  • An introduction by the chair of medicine and neurology and the residency program directors
  • Interviews with internal medicine and neurology faculty
  • Time to meet current residents and faculty
  • Lunch
  • A tour of our hospital
