The Center for Health Equity and Quality Research (CHEQR) brought together research teams to collaborate on many activities during 2010-2011 academic year. CHEQR is currently involved in a number of projects for 2011-2012:

| Goal/CHEQR Support: | To test the effect of a novel faith–based socio-culturally tailored, multi-level, hypertension control and prevention intervention called Healthy Eating And Living Spiritually (HEALS) in African American churches in the Southern part of the US. The team is using a community-based participatory research approach in collaboration with the Health Disparities Community Advisory Board from the UFHSCJ, church pastors, church-based health ministry groups, academic investigators, and external consultants to develop and test this intervention in one church. |

| Title: | Children’s Healthy Habits Integrated for Life (CHHIL): A Faith-based Healthy Lifestyle Program for Childhood Obesity Control through African Americans Churches |

| Goal/CHEQR Support: | Long-term goal is to reduce obesity & type 2 diabetes (T2D) in African American (AA) children. The immediate goal is to reduce diabetes risk factors by promoting the adoption of healthy lifestyles. This Aetna Foundation grant for regional funding is an attempt to present a faith-based diabetes prevention lifestyle program for high risk children with their families, tests its feasibility in AA children and results will be used as springboard for an NIH R18 trial. |
