Services

The services offered by University of Florida physicians at the Shands Jacksonville Pain Management Center include:

  • Comprehensive evaluation and pain management treatment planning
  • Medical management stabilization
  • Pain abatement interventional therapy

Neuromodulative percutaneous procedures offered include:

  • Diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic peripheral and central nerve blocks
  • Sympathetic plexus blockade including sphenopalatine ganglion, stellate ganglion, paravertebral sympathetic, celiac plexus and superior hypogastric plexus
  • Neurolytic blocks including radiofrequency, cryoanalgesic and chemical

Musculoskeletal treatment includes:

  • Muscle trigger point and BOTOX® injections
  • Tendon, bursa and peri-articular steroid injections
  • Intra-articular injections of steroid and viscosupplements (e.g. SYNVISC)
  • Minimally invasive intervertebral disc decompressive nucleoplasties
  • Kypoplasty and vertebroplasty for vertebral compression fractures

Surgical procedures offered include:

  • Intrathecal pump placement
  • Long-term subcutaneous tunneled epidural catheters
  • Radiofrequency neurolytic rhizotomies
  • Spinal cord stimulator placement

Complementary medicine services offered include acupuncture.

Long-term management programs include:

  • Analysis-programming of epidural and subarachnoid drug delivery systems
  • Spinal cord stimulators
  • Cancer pain and symptom management

Diseases and Syndromes Treated

UF physicians at the Shands Jacksonville Pain Management Center treat adults, teenagers and children with acute, chronic and cancer pain.

Non-painful conditions treated include:

  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Spastic movement disorders resulting from cerebral palsy and central nervous system lesions
  • Vascular insufficiency and Raynauds disease

Chronic non-malignant painful conditions treated include:

  • Cervical, thoracic, and lumbar degenerative disc and facet disease and herniated discs
  • Facial pain and Trigeminal neuralgia
  • Headaches
  • Lumbosacral and cervical neuritis
  • Myofascial pain
  • Occipital neuralgia
  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Post laminectomy/failed back surgery syndrome
  • Reflex sympathetic dystrophy, causalgia, complex regional pain syndrome
  • Spinal stenosis, spondylosis, and spondylolithesis
  • Vertebral compression fractures from osteoporosis and cancer
  • Pelvic pain and interstitial cystitis
  • Testalgia
